WRITER signs on to the EU’s Code of Practice for General-Purpose AI Models

At WRITER, our mission is clear: to empower people and transform enterprises with generative AI they can trust.

We believe that balanced and practical rules governing AI are essential for fostering that trust while preserving the ability to innovate in a safe and responsible manner. In line with this belief, we are proud to announce that we have signed the EU AI Office’s voluntary Code of Practice for General-Purpose AI Models.

What is the EU AI Code of Practice?

In July 2025, the European AI Office published the final Code of Practice for General-Purpose AI Models, following extensive input from hundreds of experts across AI providers, industry, academia, and civil society. The Code of Practice provides practical measures and steps that model providers can take to demonstrate compliance with the EU AI Act’s rules for general-purpose AI models.

We recognize that compliance does not start and end with the Code of Practice — this remains an ongoing exercise — and expect the EU Commission and national AI regulators to publish further guidance over time. We will closely monitor these developments.

That said, we believe that the Code of Practice represents an important step towards proportionate and responsible general-purpose AI regulation that will allow WRITER and others in the industry to continue to promote transparency and innovate safely and responsibly. As one of the first companies to sign the Code of Practice, we’re proud to join a coalition of technology leaders who believe that the future of AI must be built on a foundation of trust.

Our global approach to compliance

As the world embraces artificial intelligence, thoughtful regulation is crucial, and the European Union has been a leader in this conversation. Governments and regulators across the EU and beyond have increasingly focused their attention on artificial intelligence — and for good reason. The pace of innovation around AI and the novelty of its current and future applications is unprecedented. While approaches to regulation may differ, we are taking a global, unified approach to compliance so that we can continue to give enterprises the ability to build and use AI productively, safely, and responsibly.

This means building, evaluating, and monitoring our models to protect against unlawful bias, misuse, and harm, and helping generate highly accurate, safe, and reliable outputs. This means providing you with transparency and control around the data you share with us. This means protecting and securing your data and complying with global privacy and data protection laws already in place. And this means remaining committed to complying with our obligations under global AI laws as they evolve, and likewise evolving our approach as needed.
